MIRI: A 27-year-old who was found guilty of incest and rape failed to convince the court he was a repented man.
As a result, he will be 49 years old and with some scars to show when he is a free man 22 years from now. The unemployed man, who pleaded guilty before Judge Steve Ritikos, was sentenced to 22 years in jail and eight strokes of the cane for raping his sister.
Earlier, the court heard that the man committed the offence at an unnumbered house at Kampung Ulu Sungai Miri sometime in January 2015 when the victim was 15 years old.
The man, who was unrepresented, made a plea for a lighter sentence, saying he had repented. However, Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Aftal Mariz said the man did not deserve a lighter sentence as he had committed a serious offence by raping his biological sister.
The DPP said because of the man’s immoral act, the victim had become pregnant and given birth to a baby.
The DPP further said the chemist report showed that the accused is the biological father of the infant.
Judge Ritikos ordered the jail term to run from last February 4.
