KUCHING: Sarawak Patriots Association (SPA) chairman Datuk John Lau said the Sarawak Rangers should not be disbanded in the first place.
He said at least one Sarawak Rangers company should be upgraded to one battalion and as Malaysia then progressed, the battalion should have been upgraded to a brigade and later to two brigades and as years passed, to three brigades.
“By now 2019, Sarawak should have two Sarawak Ranger brigades financed by the federal government,” he said.
He stressed as equal partners, Sarawak and Sabah should have two brigades of Sarawak and Sabah Rangers, for each territory. And the two brigades may be further upgraded to divisional level.
“All personnel of the two brigades of Sarawak Rangers and Sabah Rangers should be recruited from these two territories,” he said.
He said Malaya continued to have two divisions of personnel recruited from Malaya itself.
“The Navy and Air Force personnel should be staffed from all the three territories, with Malaya having 40 percent strength and Sarawak and Sabah 30 percent strength each.
“Then we can say we are truly Malaysia of three equal partners.”
