LIMBANG: Bukit Kota assemblyman Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail handed out a total of RM457,000 in grants to 174 recipients here yesterday.
The recipients included neighbourhood watch committees (KRTs), parent-teacher associations (PTA), houses of worship, associations as well as preschools.
“The Sarawak government has allocated RM2 million to each assemblyman through the minor rural projects (MRP) allocation to be distributed to the ‘rakyat’. It is hoped that this grant will enable you to carry out your respective activities,” he said at a presentation ceremony at Dewan Bunga Raya here.
Abdul Rahman, who is also Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development Assistant Minister, called on associations to be more creative in generating revenue.
“I believe that the allocation provided by the people’s representatives is not enough.
“You can use the allocation provided as a capital to start business,” he said, adding that for those who have yet to receive the grant, they would receive theirs in due time.
