SIBU: The government provided an allocation of RM10 million under the Marris fund to the Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) to upgrade and refurbish its facilities and infrastructure.
Deputy chairman Robert Lau Hui Yew said SRDC covered a very large area with at least 100 roads.
“As such, SRDC will strive to provide the best service to the people.
“In the meantime, we also have an allocation of funds to upgrade roads in the rural areas of Bawang Assan,” he explained to New Sarawak Tribune during his visit to Bawang Assan on Sunday.
Accompanying Lau were SRDC secretary Justani Joni, SRDC councillors and others. They went to the ground to visit and monitor the progress of road upgrades in the constituency.
Besides that, they also monitored the conditions of roadside hawkers at Lanang Bridge and along the road to Sarikei.
“We visited the traders here today because we wanted to know and help them with the facilities they needed,” he added.
Lau said SRDC was interested to build a Bazaar Tamu, public toilets, bin centre and other facilities for the convenience of commuters along the road.
