KUCHING: The weather, or the haze, rather, is beginning to take a toll on those with health issues. Or, so it seems when two men in their late forties died in quite similar manner within hours of each other here in the city. In the first incident, a 48-year-old man was found dead in the driver’s seat of a car parked at Kuching International Airport (KIA) early yesterday morning. District police chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani said policemen deployed to the scene found a man clad in a red T-shirt and a pair of denim shorts unconscious inside a compact car. Awang Din said the deceased was identified as Mohamad Bujang, an employee of an airline company. He was pronounced dead by paramedics summoned to the scene.

“The body was brought to the Sarawak General Hospital for a post-mortem,” he added when contacted. He pointed out that according to family members and colleagues, the deceased suffered from lung problems. Awang Din said preliminary investigations carried out at the scene did not find any sign of foul play.

“The case has been classified as sudden death,” he added. In the other incident, a 47-year-old bakery driver was found dead in his van which was parked behind Medan Hamidah late Wednesday. Awang Din said the deceased, Joseph Matthew Griffin, from Kampung Siol Kandis, was found motionless in the van by a passer-by. He added that the police were notified of the incident at 11.50pm. “Initial investigation revealed that the deceased had a history of suffering from high blood pressure. “As in the earlier case, the police have also ruled out foul play as physical examination showed there were no bodily injuries,” said Awang Din, adding that the case was classified as sudden death. “The body had been sent to the Sarawak General Hospital mortuary for an autopsy,” he disclosed.
