KUCHING: A total of 70 participants from the tourism industry gathered to carry out a series of gotong-royong programmes for hotels here at the Grand Dormani Rajah Court Hotel, yesterday.

Jointly organised by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) and the Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) Sarawak, the programme was in line with the ‘Visit Malaysia Year 2020’ campaign to highlight cleanliness issues in public areas which was recommended by the Health Ministry.

State Motac director Suriya Charles Buas said the initiative aimed to raise the standard of cleanliness in public areas, especially in areas frequented by tourists.

“Hygiene not only provides comfort to tourists but to everyone else as well.

“In fact, this will also help to combat the transmission of harmful and contagious diseases,” said Suriya.
