KUCHING: Enjoying ‘live’ jazz music performance by the Sarawak River was “quite an experience” for some.
They had all expected to enjoy the Kuching Jazz Waterfront Festival (KWJF) 2019 under the sky with the moon and the stars shining and flickering above.
But because of the hazy condition the venue was moved to the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Community Hall on Friday night.
Elizabeth Nawie, a first timer to the fest, said moving the venue did nothing to spoil the mood of music lovers like her.
“Watching jazz music performance by the river sure sounds romantic but meeting the artistes and seeing them perform before our very eyes is all that matters,” said the 34-year old when meet during the prelude performance at the Rajang Lounge of Grand Margherita Hotel on Thursday night.
“I’m looking forward to seeing Harvey Malaiholo and Ning Baizura in person,” she added.
Another participant, Hajar Mohidin, said outdoor would have been the “perfect” place.
“The crowd can be as big as they come but there’s also something about jazz — it does need a kind of quiet at time, so I guess I am fine with the venue switch,” she said.
Meanwhile, 24-year old Kuchingite Cowan believes that despite the venue change, the music performers would still give their best.
“If the performers do well, you can expect the crowds will love it.
“And knowing musicians who love their stuff, they will deliver no matter where they play,” he said.
