KUCHING: A van driver suffered burns on 70 per cent of his body while a child sustained minor burns after the vehicle that they were in caught fire yesterday morning in Tatau.
The fire started in the engine compartment of the van in front of Tatau clinic at 6.50am when the driver was ferrying the children to school.
Passers-by came to their rescue and put out the flames with fire extinguishers. About 10 per cent of the engine parts were damaged.
Firemen were called to the scene to help control the flames.
