KUCHING: Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) recently won the Pacific Asia Travel Association (Pata) Gold Award for a tourism video entitled “Why Limit Yourself”.
The award presentation ceremony was held on Sept 19 at the Congress Centre of Nur-Sultan (Astana) in Kazakhstan.
The video, which won under the “Marketing Media-Travel Video” category, was produced by a home grown Sarawakian company, Asa Esa Films and is filled with beautiful sceneries, flora and fauna, exotic cuisines as well as stories from indigenous Sarawak tribes.
The video aims to show visitors the special experiences that the Land of the Hornbill can offer to visitors.
Various attractions featured in the video include Mulu National Park, Bako National Park, Tusan Beach in Miri, Satang Island, Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV) in Santubong, Kuching Waterfront, Darul Hana Bridge and Siniawan Night Market in Bau.
The video also highlights other attractions such as Sarawak local cuisines such as Sarawak Laksa, local ferns ‘Midin’ and ‘Manok Pansuh’. It also features the beautiful array of fauna and flora found in Sarawak such as the Rafflesia, Orang Utan and those found in Batang Ai.
Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Hamzah received the Pata Gold Award 2019 trophy from STB chief executive officer (CEO) Sharzede Salleh Askor during a ceremony at Baitulmakmur Building here yesterday.
Karim, in his speech, applauded the production of the video which was in line with the Visit Sarawak Campaign 2019 promotional campaign that seeks to share what Sarawak has to offer in terms of Culture, Adventure, Nature, Food and Festivals (CANFF).
“Good videos like this which have already impressed judges from other parts of the world and reflect the beauty of Sarawak.”
He said the state would definitely use the video for promotions.
“It is a big achievement to have that kind of recognition from an agency like Pata,” he added.
Meanwhile, Sharzede said the people should be proud as Sarawakians produced the video that took eight months to complete.
“Taking the time and making sure we get the right products in the video to show the world are most important,” she added.

PATA Gold Awards are presented to tourism industry players, organisations and individuals who are passionate in making outstanding contributions towards the successful promotion of the travel industry throughout the Asia Pacific Region.
It is also based on four principle categories: Marketing, Education & Training, Environment as well as Heritage & Culture.
This year’s PATA Gold awards have attracted a total of 197 entries from 78 organisations and individuals worldwide.
