KUCHING: One of the Sarawak government’s visions is to develop the state into the Bavaria of Asia by the year 2030.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said the state had already initiated four main thrusts — the development of modern agriculture, tourism, infrastructure and education —under the 12th Malaysia Plan.
When all these developments materialise, he hopes Sarawak can be the most developed state in the country and be like Bavaria in 2030.
“In the European Union (EU), there are two regions that determine the future of the economy of EU, Bavaria and Italy.
“Bavaria in Germany is a very well developed region in EU, and in Italy, you have cars like Bugatti, Lamborghini, Ferrari and all the high fashions in Milan,” he said during the Business Engagement Session with the Chief Minister of Sarawak organised by Sarawak Business Federation (SBF) at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) yesterday.
Abang Johari said Bavaria and Italy had propelled the European economy and he hoped Sarawak would achieve the same success as well.
“That is why the state government under the Gabungan Parti Sarawak has prioritised the development of the four main sectors under the 12th Malaysia Plan.”
