SARIKEI: Fourteen people were left homeless today after their single-storey house in Jalan Abdul Rahman here was destroyed in an early morning fire.
Sarikei Fire and Rescue Station chief Mahmudin Narudin said the fire was first noticed by one of the occupants, believed to have started in the kitchen area.
He said the station received the emergency call at about 12.44 am before a fire engine and 14 firefighters were rushed to the scene.
“However, when the team reached the scene, the house was already totally engulfed in fire and the cause of fire is still under investigation,” he said.
He said the firefighting operation ended at 2.27 am. – Bernama
