KUCHING: Deputy State Secretary Datuk Dr Sabariah Putit believes that the participation of young people in activities related to maintaining and preserving the Malay heritage would instil a sense of responsibility in them.
“I am proud to see young people now starting to recognise the origins and traditions behind their legacies,” she said at a traditional Malay costume contest at Padang Merdeka here last Tuesday.
Thus youngsters who got involved in organising as well as participating in the competition indirectly contributed to elevating the arts and culture of the Malays in Sarawak.
“Such efforts should be continued and enhanced to ensure the continuity of the Malay cultural heritage,” she said.
Ten men and ten women participated in the costume contest organised by the Persatuan Kesenian dan Warisan Melayu Kuching (Kewarisma) in collaboration with the Old Kuching Smart Heritage (OKSHe) and Anggun Collection.
