KAPIT: The Kapit District Council (KDC) in collaboration with Lions Club Kapit and the Sports and Recreation Club of the council (Kadico) will organise a community run (Larian Komuniti 2019) on Nov 9 at the foyer of the council’s building at Jalan Kubu here.

Chairing a committee meeting on Tuesday afternoon, the assistant secretary of the council, Kelimbik Sibat said the community run programme is held to coincide with the official opening of Kapit Riverfront project located in front of Fort Sylvia.

He added that the programme will be divided into two main categories —namely for Men and Ladies Open respectively and is open to all in Kapit. The run is free of charge.

Kelimbik said that for the first 100 participants, each will be given a free t-shirt and those additional participants will be given a cap each — adding that attractive prizes awaits the winner.

To coincide with the run the organising committee will also be organising a competition for the collection of recyclable waste.

“Each participant will be given a plastic bag for them to collect recyclable waste along the route,” he said.

The run will begin from the foyer of the council building en-route to Jalan Selirik passing along Jalan Hill Top and Jalan Puan Sri Tiong to Jalan Penghulu Nyanggau, passing the New Bazaar, Night Street Market and ended at the foyer of the council’s building as the finishing point.

A lucky draw will also be organised for the participants and prior to the run, an aerobics sessione will be held at 7am after the registration of participants that will begin at 6am.

Commenting on the official opening of the Kapit Riverfront project, Kelimbik said that Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing, who is also Infrastructure and Ports Development Minister, will be attending the event.

Another activity to be held to coincide with the opening of Kapit Riverfront is the Powerboat Race, one of the most popular water sports events in Kapit that is expected to attract participants from Sibu, Kanowit and Bintulu.
