SIBU: The local branch of the Mental Health Association of Sarawak will mark the ‘World Mental Health Day 2019’ as a suicide-prevention event at 2pm tomorrow at Toh Siong Hall in the Sibu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Building.
According to a spokesperson for the event, the event aims to increase public awareness because lately there was an increase in suicidal attempts and suicides in the community.
As suicide is a worldwide problem, the World Health Organisation has been provoked to emphasise prevention as the theme for the World Mental Health Day 2019,” he said in a press statement yesterday.
The guest of honour at the event is Sibu Resident, Charles Siaw and according to the spokesman, a psychiatrist from Sibu Hospital, Dr Wong Siong Teck, will give a talk on suicide prevention entitled, ‘Let’s Do It Together’.
After the talk, there will be a prize giving ceremony for children who took part in a colouring contest held by the association and KRT Pasar Teku on October 13.
All the winners and the public are welcome to the ceremony.
