KUCHING: The motor sports associations in Sarawak are pushing the state government to set up a drag track to promote active motorsports among the youth.
Petra Jaya MP Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said, “This was asked by the associations so that the younger generation can be actively involved and promote active motorsports in terms of track activities in the state.
“Therefore, I hope in the future, Sarawak will be able to have not only a drag track circuit but also a full motorsport track for the younger generation.”
He mentioned this when officiating at the launch of Supermotor October 2019 here at Bunga Sri Rampai Banquet Hall, Jalan Tan Sri Ong Kee Hui, yesterday.
In addition to the one-day programme, an unveiling ceremony of the Modenas latest Kriss 110 and Pulsar NS160 was also held. It is a new outreach initiative of awareness in motorsports by promoting a positive sub-culture to the youth.
“Thus, we mark the month of October to recognise public awareness about the important role which motorsports play in all aspects of social and economic life in Sarawak,” he said.
Fadillah further noted that in 1995, Motorcycle gymkhana which was founded in Japan, was recognised as a rider-led sport and an art of motorcycle riding in which today, the skills and techniques are pre-requisites if one wants to become a traffic police officer.
“Such sport is still very new in Malaysia and we should be very proud as Sarawakians because we are the first in Malaysia to officially promote and celebrate this sport as an effort to guide the younger generation and motorcycle owners with better motorcycle etiquettes and precautions for safety.
“As you are all aware, the Malaysian Moto GP 2019 will be taking place on Nov 1 and in today’s programme, Repsol is kind enough to sponsor a few tickets as prizes in the lucky draw session, apart from other activities,” he added.
The programme organised by Ghee Hua Co Sdn Bhd saw a total of 120 attendees.
