Singapore-Malaysia co-operation reaffirmed

SINGAPORE: Singapore’s Minister for Communications and Information S. Iswaran and his Malaysian counterpart Gobind Singh Deo will attend the 13th Muzika Ekstravaganza (Muzika), an annual variety co-production by Singapore’s Mediacorp and Malaysia’s Radio Television Malaysia (RTM).

Hosted by Singapore this year, Muzika underscores the close ties and strong cooperation between Singapore and Malaysia in the field of info-communications and media, said a joint statement by the two ministries here yesterday.

Themed ‘Move to the Groove’ (Mari Kita Gelek), the Muzika, which started in 2005, showcases the evolution of music and dance in Singapore and Malaysia.

Hosted by TV icon Najip Ali and versatile singer-actress-host Nana Mahazan, the two-hour Muzika Ekstravaganza will be telecast live on Mediacorp Suria and RTM TV2.

It will feature performances with influences from the region and the world such as Latin music and K-Pop by singers from the respective countries, including Taufik Batisah, Rahimah Rahim, Hetty Sarlene, Waris, Jay Jay, and Gerhana Ska Cinta. Earlier on Thursday, government officials from Singapore and Malaysia held the Third Joint Committee Meeting (JCM) on Information and Communications Cooperation in Singapore.

The JCM was co-chaired by Yong Ying-I, permanent secretary of Singapore’s Ministry of Communications and Information, and her Malaysian counterpart Datuk Suriani Ahmad.

The officials exchanged views on a broad range of issues, including info-communications, cybersecurity, digital transformation, and professional exchanges. 

The officials from Malaysia include Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chief executive officer Nurini Kassim, Broadcasting Department director-general  Abdul Muis Shefii, Information Department director-general Roselindawati Abdul Rahman, and the National Film Development Corporation (Finas) chief executive officer Ahmad Idham Ahmad Nadzri. – Bernama
