SRI AMAN: Sri Aman’s Department of Welfare (JKM) presented assistance cheques worth a total of RM125,000 to 19 families of fire victims from Rumah Siliver Garit, Undop Kenyungan here yesterday morning.
The purpose of the assistance was to help the victims in purchasing daily neccesities and clothing as well as for their children’s school assistance. They were also required to use the cash aid to purchase home building materials.
Infact Sri Aman’s Divisional JKM office had previously contributed assistance in the forms of food and kitchen appliances worth RM17,600 for all the victim families and thus bringing their total assistance to RM142,600.
Assistant Minister of Community Wellbeing, Datuk Francis Harden Hollis was given the honour to hand over the cheques as well as other assistance to the household heads of the families involved.
He also presented a personal cash assistance totalling RM19,000 and also handed over another personal assistance of RM19,000 on behalf of Housing and Local Government Minister Professor Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian to all the victims.
The Women Simanggang Branch of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) also presented assistance cheque totalling RM2,000 and nine packets of rice for all the victims’ families with 10 packets of rice contributed by one Hiu Kee Jin from Lachau.
Also present at the ceremony were the Assistant Director of Sri Aman JKM Divisional Office, Awangku Mohd Najib Pengiran Mohammad, Sri Aman Social Welfare Officer Boniface Julai, government officers and members of the Simanggang SUPP branch.
Harden and his entourage then took the opportunity to meet each member of the victim’s families and then went to have a look at the aftemath of the fire scene at the Kenyungan longhouse.
