State-level Maulidur Rasul celebration welcomes all

THE Maulidur Rasul assembly and procession this Saturday (November 9) will involve 267 contingents with 10,436 members in total.

“I am sure the number of members will increase, since the participation applications are still open,” said Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi during a press conference at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) complex in Petra Jaya here, yesterday.

He revealed that the guests of honour at the state-level Maulidur Rasul celebration will be Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib as well as Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and wife Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang.

The contingents involved are from government departments and agencies, statutory bodies, mosques, Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK), institutes of higher education, private firms, schools, uniformed bodies, and more.

“We also have a special contingent of non-Muslim participants as this celebration is open to all regardless of religion,” Abdul Rahman said.

He added that the event will take place on November 8 and 9, beginning with a thanksgiving ceremony at the State Mosque (Masjid Jamek) in the evening of November 8 with the Head of State and Chief Minister in attendance.

Abdul Rahman said that there would also be side activities prior to and following the celebration.

“There will be a banner competition, of which the champion will take home a cash prize of RM3,000 and the first and second runner-up will receive RM2,000 and RM1,000 respectively,” he added.

Abdul Rahman encouraged all, regardless of religion, to attend and participate in the celebration.
