KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing has described the development of the Sarawak-Sabah Link Road (SSLR) as ‘good proposal’.
“I am pleased that the federal government is using the fund to link us together and I hope they will carry it through.
“I also hope they will give us more funds for further development and by all means, do not pull any fund that has been given to us. No U-Turns,” he told reporters when asked to comment on the matter.
He further stated that for the road to go through Sarawak, Works Minister Baru Bian needs to inform Sarawak Planning Authority (SPA) and obtain its approval.
“The SPA must be told because the land goes through us (the state government) and they must get SPA’s approval to make the road alignment,” he explained.
He added, “Make sure that the money is (really) available. Don’t say it (the money is available) now and finally say: sorry, we don’t have the money because this is the federal government’s work.”
He said this when met by reporters after presenting minor rural project (MRP) cheques to 105 recipients at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) building here, yesterday.
On Tuesday, Baru announced that the construction of the SSLR stretching 425km costing RM5.2 billion will commence in October next year.
