AN assemblyman wants the government to issue carry arm gun licence which was frozen by the state government several years ago.

Jefferson Jamit Unyat (GPS-Bukit Goram) floated the idea during the State Legislative Assembly (DUN)

sitting here yesterday.

“Shotgun is one of the most valuable family assets and the ownership of which has been passed down the generations from our forefathers.

“This is given to an eligible family member who is the custodian of the ‘bilik’ normally from father to son or to a daughter if the couple has no son to inherit the shot gun in order to safeguard the farm and family gardens from wild animals,” he said when debating on the Supply (2020) Bill, 2019 in the august House.

Jamit also echoed calls for the revival of Border Scouts and the Sarawak Rangers.

“To further enhance the security of our country, I would like to suggest to the state government to revive the Border Scout or Sarawak Rangers that was once a feared force.

“Security of the country is of prime importance to safeguard the people against external forces and foreign threat.

“As we are aware, recently our neighbouring country, Indonesia has proposed to shift its capital city to Kalimantan.”

He believed that it was high time that the state strengthen its security at border posts shared with Kalimantan.

“In addition, Sarawak has many dams such as Bakun, Murum, Batang Ai and Baleh. Thus, we need the presence of our security forces to safeguard those areas,” he explained.
