THE government should develop Taman Negara Maludam and Pulau Seduku into tourism destinations to benefit the local community.  Simoi Peri (GPS-Lingga) also said that basic infrastructures such as access road, lavatory, viewing tower and chalets at the park be upgraded or developed. “I hope that Lingga can be a gateway for tourists to Gunung Lesung.

“This will boost the economy of Lingga community especially the youths as they can be trained as accredited park guides,” she said when debating on the state budget in the DUN session
yesterday.

Simoi also urged the government to upgrade Lingga old town (Pasar Lama Lingga) which was established in 1849 and known as a historical place where Rajah Brooke fought pirates at the time.

“This old town should be maintained and preserved as a historical heritage site. It can be used as a tourism product which showcases historical values,” she said.
