KUCHING: Ministry of Utilities and Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) Kapit are looking into the matter after the public raised the problem of water supply in Kapit District.

Currently, Kapit JBALB’s existing 4.5MLD and 12MLD water treatment plant (WTP) are operating both at 6.8MLD and 16.5MLD respectively beyond their designed
capacity.

The upgrading works are part of JBALB’s ongoing efforts to provide better quality water to consumers in Kapit.

At the same time, JBALB carried out intervention works such as replacing ageing pipes and upgrading existing water treatment plants in stages.

Kapit JBALB had carried out general maintenance and upgrading works on the desludging system, which started on Oct 28.

The agency has been sending water supply to the affected areas, especially those on high ground and at end point of the pipelines.

Phase Two of the works for Kapit 12MLD WTP desludging system will begin on Nov 23 until Dec 3.

During this period, production of the plant would be reduced to half capacity and water supply in Kapit District would be affected in terms of pressure and supply, especially to those who are on higher ground.

JBALB water tankers will be on standby and ready to send water to the affected areas.
