KUCHING: The Sarawak Day celebration is an important and a very meaningful event as it motivates the people of Sarawak to continue protecting the security and sovereignty of the state.
Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs and DBKU) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said it is also an important day because it is the very day a Sarawakian, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan, was appointed as the chief minister of Sarawak.
He stated that Sarawak was once ruled by the Brookes, Japanese and British before achieving independence in Malaysia in 1963.
“Furthermore, appreciation should also be given to the former late chief minister Pehin Sri Adenan Satem who realised the importance of July 22 and declared it as a public holiday in 2016,” he said in his Sarawak Day message.
Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also the Assistant Minister of Utilities (Water Supply), added that Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, as the sixth chief minister, is always working hard to boost Sarawak’s development towards prosperity and most importantly, ensuring the wellbeing of the people are taken care of.
“There is various development projects that will provide comfort and convenience to the people such as road networks, construction of bridges, improving educational infrastructure and public facilities, and these are all being implemented widely in every corner of the state.
“Therefore, it is also our hope that the people in Sarawak continue to be united and reject any negative perceptions or actions that can break the unity of the society,” he said.
