KUCHING: Para athletes in Sarawak will receive the same medal incentives as their able-bodied counterparts, said Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.
“Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has approved a cash incentive of RM15,000 for each gold medalist, RM5,000 for silver, and RM3,000 for bronze in the Para SUKMA XXI,” she told reporters after paying a courtesy call on Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar at the Astana Negeri today (Sept 10).
Fatimah, who chairs the Para SUKMA 2024 Main Committee, expressed gratitude for the Premier’s decision to ensure equal rewards for all athletes.
The Para SUKMA will be held in Sarawak from September 22 to 28, featuring 328 medals across 10 sports.
Wan Junaidi and his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, have been invited to attend the opening ceremony on September 22 at the Stadium Perpaduan.
Also present was Deputy Minister for Women and Childhood Community Development Datuk Rosey Yunus.
