LUNDU: A weekend family getaway turned into a tragedy after a seven-year-old boy was found drowned in a swimming pool at a resort here yesterday (Feb 19).

In the 9.30am incident, the body of the boy was found in the pool by another resort guest who was also swimming there

Lundu OCPD DSP Damataries Lautin said the victim’s mother had performed a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) immediately, but there was no response. They alerted the authorities.

“The victim was rushed to Lundu Hospital, however, was later pronounced dead due to drowning by the medical personnel at the hospital,” he said, adding that a police report was lodged by the deceased’s father after the incident.

“We have also deployed a team to the scene to conduct investigations, and it was believed that the victim was drowned inside the pool, which was about four feet in depth,” he said.

The victim was initially bathing in the pool with his siblings around 9am and they were accompanied by their mother before the incident happened.
