KUCHING: Even though the Mooncake Festival is one of the biggest festivals for the Chinese community, in Sarawak, it is celebrated by all.
This interesting fact was pointed out by Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen to reporters last Sunday here at the Salvation Army’s Home, Jalan Ban Hock
“Regardless of race and religion, we all celebrate the festival together because Sarawak is where we live in great understanding, tolerance and harmony.
“In this season of celebration, we want to think of everybody because we want to build a caring, loving and healthy society in Kuching,” he said.
Dr Yii urged the public to remember the less fortunate like orphans, elderly and the homeless during any festive celebrations.
The MP had dinner with approximately 50 children at the Salvation Army’s Home last Sunday and treated them to mooncakes. He said he was told that some of the children had never tasted mooncakes before.
After the dinner, Dr Yii invited the children to join him outdoors here to play with lanterns under the night sky,
Earlier, in the afternoon, he visited a shelter for the homeless called Green Ribbon Association Kuching.
“We held the same programme there because I think in this season of celebration, we want to think of everybody. We want to build a caring, loving and healthy society in Kuching.
“We are all one family regardless of our wealth status and educational status. As Sarawakians, we are all equal,” said Dr Yii.
