KUCHING: Sports fans rejoice! The SUKMA XXI Sarawak 2024 mobile application is set to offer real-time result updates, giving the public easy access to information and news about the upcoming 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA).

Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah announced that the app marks a first in SUKMA’s history.

“The app comes with various features, such as the competition schedule and results, the latest medal standings, and news updates. Users can also watch videos or live streams through the TV Sarawak (TVS) link.

“Twenty sports will have live broadcasting, while others will be recorded and broadcast later. So, it’s going to be like the SEA Games and the Olympics.

“Additionally, the app allows users to locate sports venues, making it easier for visitors from outside the area to navigate using the map and find their way to the event locations without getting lost,” he said during a press conference following the activation ceremony of the SUKMA XXI Sarawak 2024 Command Centre held at Baitul Makmur II Building here today.

Abdul Karim encouraged all Sarawakians to download the app to stay updated on SUKMA’s progress, including the medal standings.

“The development of this app is also in response to our Premier’s call to empower our services through the Digital Economy.

“I believe that once other contingents hear about the app, they will download it as well, making it easier for them to track the medal standings,” he added.

He also noted that the app will set a new benchmark for future SUKMA events.

“When we briefed at the SUKMA supreme committee, they were very impressed with what we are doing. I want to ensure everything runs smoothly because future hosts will look at what was done in the previous SUKMA,” he said.

On the activation of the SUKMA XXI Sarawak 2024 Command Centre, he announced operations would start on Aug 9 and continue until the end of Para SUKMA on Sept 28.

He said the command centre will assist the SUKMA secretariat in monitoring the progress of SUKMA and PARA SUKMA and oversee issues occurring at 50 competition venues across nine divisions in Sarawak throughout the event.

“Through this command centre, we can also monitor live competitions and the current medal standings.

“At the same time, it will also monitor, via the Games Management System, all logistics information, including accommodation distribution, transportation, catering, volunteers, and personnel,” he explained.

Also present were Deputy State Secretary (Operations) cum SUKMA chief executive officer Datuk Hii Chang Kee, MYSED permanent secretary Morshidi Fredrick.
