JAKARTA: A collaboration between the Centre of Studies, Art and Design, Architecture, Planning and Surveying (SSSPU) of Universiti Teknologi MARA Sarawak (UiTM) and Universitas Trisakti, Jakarta together with Sarawak Art Society (SAS) presented a programme titled ‘Mapping Sarawak to the World: International Arts Exchange and Exhibition’ recently.

The programme was held at Universitas Trisakti and it aims to expose Sarawak youths to cross-cultural appreciation between countries.

Furthermore, its objective is also to support the Sarawak government by mapping and promoting Sarawak’s tourism industry globally through international arts and culture.

Dr Asmah Alia Mohamad Bohari, head of SSSPU and rector representative of UiTM Sarawak expressed her gratitude to the programme’s sponsors and collaborators for making the event a success.

“We aspire to promote local talent in creative arts, building design, and local arts that focus on Sarawak culture while strengthening relationships with external institutions through collaboration and joint research,” she said.

Some of the activities done during the programme were public lecture sessions by lecturers from both UiTM Sarawak and Universitas Trisakti, an art talk by Sebastian Jong from SAS, and an art demonstration by SAS.

Apart from that, 40 young talents from Sarawak participated in the Art Exchange and Exhibition that was held at Denah Gedung, Universitas Trisakti where the exhibition was held from May 27 until June 6.

The programme was officiated by rector representative of Universitas Trisakti,  Dr. Muhammad Burhannudinnur on May 29.

Also present during the opening ceremony were Farzamie Sarkawi, dDputy Chief of Mission Embassy Malaysia Jakarta, Dr Hasnul Faizal Hushin Amri, Minister Counsellor (Education) Embassy Malaysia, Zulfadhli bin Hamzah, Education Attache Embassy Malaysia Jakarta, Firna Azura Ekaputri Marzuki, executive director, International Pepper Community, faculty deans from Universitas Trisakti, local artists, lecturers, and students from Jakarta, Indonesia.
