KUCHING: The passing of the former Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud is indeed a great loss to Sarawak.
Federation of Chinese Association of Kuching, Samarahan and Serian Division president Datuk Richard Wee said that throughout his tenure as the Head of State and Chief Minister of Sarawak, Taib had emphasised political stability.
“The harmony and stability that has been propagated within Sarawak by him has led to the foundation of what we are today.
“Hopefully our Premier will be able to continue his legacy and bring it to another level,” he said when met by the media after he paid his last respects to Taib at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) complex here today.
Saying it is a sad day for Sarawak, he added: “On behalf of the Chinese community and my association, we extend our deepest condolences to his family.”
The late Taib, 87, dies at a private hospital in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
He was brought back to his home state at 4.40 pm yesterday and will be laid to rest at the family cemetery in Demak Jaya after Zohor prayers today.
