KUCHING: “We were looking forward to our 50th wedding anniversary,” said a tearful Datin Sri Marie Therese Mathias, mourning the loss of her husband, Datuk Seri Ambrose Blikau Enturan, who died on Saturday.

Marie recalled their long journey together, having been married when she was only 18.

Marie speaks to reporters, struggling to hold back her tears.

Their golden anniversary was set for December.

“He was my rock for 50 years. I’m really going to miss him. He was always so kind and caring,” she shared.

Marie recalled an emotional moment when Blikau mentioned preparations for his own funeral.

“He would tell me, ‘Everything’s arranged for my funeral, so you don’t have to worry. ‘ It was hard for me to hear him talk that way.”

She added that during his recent hospital stays, Blikau’s health noticeably deteriorated.

“The third time he was admitted, I could tell he felt different. Once, when I briefly left to freshen up, he called me back, saying he wasn’t feeling well. It was so painful,” she said.

Marie described his passing, “The machines started beeping less frequently, and then he was gone, just like that.”

Today (Sept 10), Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari and his wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, paid their respects at Blikau’s residence at Lot 608, Jalan Kedandi, Lorong 8, Tabuan Dusun.

The late Blikau, 70, succumbed to lung infection at 8.05 am at the Normah Medical Specialist Centre.
