KUCHING: With the help of the Consulate General of Malaysia in Nanning, a delegation from Sarawak’s Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports paid a courtesy call on the Nanning Municipal People’s Government on September 11, 2018.

Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Datuk Lee Kim Shin, who was accompanied by the Director of Tourism Malaysia China Southern Region, Sharon Ho, was received by the Deputy Mayor of Nanning, He Ying, Vice Secretary-general of Nanning Municipal People’s Government, Zhang Fang, the Deputy Director of Nanning Foreign Affairs and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, Huang Haiyan, the Deputy Director of Nanning Commerce Bureau, Zhang Li, and the Deputy Director of Nanning Tourism Development Committee, Lin Huichao.

The di s cus s i on be twe e n Sarawak Government and Nanning Municipal People’s Government focused mainly on strategies for collaboration and opportunities, particularly, mutual tourism official visits, arts and cultural exchanges, calendar of events invitations and participation in e-commerce including online sales and purchase of tourism packages under China’s platform.

In addition, Sarawak and China proposed to look into the possibility of friendship ties between Miri City in Sarawak with Nanning City through the Consulate General Malaysia of Nanning. Apart from sister relations establishment, the ministry also tried to develop new direct flight air connectivity between Nanning and Sarawak.

Sarawak also proposed to tap into Nanning-Brunei direct flight by Royal Brunei Airline to attract Nanning tourists arriving from Brunei to Miri, and other regions via e-Visa. The Sarawak Ministry of Toursim, Arts and Culture will also try to familiarise itself with Nanning’s tourism resources and get product updates in order to strengthen marketing and promotion strategies to boost tourism arrivals in the state.
