KUCHING: If you are looking for a purr-fect time over a cuppa Meow Meow Cat Café, the first of its kind in the city, may be just the place to give you a feline trill.

The cafe welcomes cat lovers or any individual who wants to spend time and chill with cats while enjoying a light meal.

Owner Janet Then, 70, said her passion for cats gave her the idea to open a cat-themed cafe, after her previous business, The Pet Zone, grew well.

She said there were no cat cafes open in Sarawak at the time and that inspired her to start a cat cafe concept business several years ago.

The entrance fee charged to visitors is RM10 for adults and RM5 for children aged 5 and below.

For Then, the price is very reasonable and that this makes it special compared to other cat cafes.

And visitors will get an hour to dot on the 10 resident cats of various breeds such as brown tabby, domestic long hair, mix British short hair and other breeds.

Mango, Echo, Oreo, Whiskey, Coco, Anna, Farell, Emrys, Suria and Tammy are placed in a special place, a cat zone next to the dining area.

Because the cat zone and the dining room are separated, the problem of cat fur strewn all over the place, especially in the dining room, is avoided altogether.

In this respect Then said cleanliness is guaranteed and that the cat-mosphere will always be under control because staff keep an eye on the cats.

During the Movement Control Order (MCO), customers made reservations in advance before visiting the cafe, but now visitors can just drop in although the cafe still accepts reservations.

According to Then, her cafe which offers drinks and snacks such as fried potatoes, nuggets, chicken thighs and others as well as a relaxation zone with cats is not only frequented by local people but tourists from abroad such as Holland, Germany, Singapore and many more.

The cafe now plans to attract more tourists or visitors by asking for guidance and advice from the tourism community to attract foreign tourists.
