A rap concert, organised by Billionaire Records in partnership with Asian Project, Cheng Du Corp, and DIGI GHETTO, was held at Zepp KL on August 25, 2023, in Kuala Lumpur, with GOXUAN as the media partner.

Zepp KL emerged as the epicentre of musical jubilation on this scorching summer night. Cheng Du Corp and DIGI GHETTO, wielding the dynamic force of Chinese hip-hop, propelled the city to a climactic high. The lineup, nothing short of opulent, featured “China’s Drill King” — DDG, alongside Melo and Psy.P from Cheng Du Corp, and the most popular Chinese rap group of the current generation — DIGI GHETTO’s member, Kiv, Mula Sakee, and Mac Ova Seas.

The performance unfolded like a surging tide, immersing the audience in a riveting journey of hip-hop music and fervour.

Six hours before the show, a serpentine queue adorned the entrance of ZEPP KL.

At 3pm, a captivating sight unfolded — a winding queue, a serpentine embrace of anticipation, at the entrance of ZEPP KL. Witnessing the live prowess of several Chinese rap artistes simultaneously was no small feat. Fans who opted for free-standing positions had arrived at the venue’s doorstep six hours before the commencement of the performance, standing patiently in line. Their sole purpose is to bask in their beloved rap artistes’ proximity and savour the live performance’s unique energy.

This extraordinary queue wasn’t merely about claiming a spot but creating a singular, almost intimate, musical experience. During the lengthy wait outside the venue, each person in line showcased a boundless love for hip-hop music and unwavering expectations for the upcoming spectacle. Fuelled by passion, they willingly sacrificed comfort to be present at the live event and immerse themselves in the distinctive allure of their cherished rap artistes.

DJ YIDA sets the stage ablaze

The stage was entrusted to DJ YIDA, the rising star from TRAP CN, who ignited the entire venue with a unique style and vibrant music. His distinct position in the music realm swiftly enveloped the audience in the ambience of the performance. As the atmosphere gradually heated up, anticipation and excitement permeated the crowd. Following DJ YIDA’s safety instructions, the audience created circles, known as “moshing”, in various corners of the venue. This customary technique at music festivals elevated the atmosphere, laying a robust foundation for the subsequent performances by the rappers.

After DJ YIDA’s warm-up, members of Cheng Du Corp and DIGI GHETTO took turns gracing the stage. First up was DDG, bestowed with the title “China’s Drill King”, who not only performed his classics but also treated the audience to the hot singles from “The Rap of China 2023”, meeting the fans’ requests. The familiar lyrics and rhythms prompted fans to join in an impromptu choir. Melo and Psy.P, along with Kiv, Mula Sakee, and Mac Ova Seas, were also presented with a performance rich in creativity and passion. The fusion of stage lighting, visual effects, and music painted a vivid and colourful musical tapestry.

Promises fulfilled, passion overflows

Psy.P’s unwavering enthusiasm for Asian fans has left an indelible mark, and this performance stood as a testament to his commitment. Not only did he grace the stage personally, but he also joined forces with fellow artistes to deliver an unbelievable show to the Malaysian audience. Even during the performance, he collaborated with the audience, leaping from the stage for the the “crowd surfing” segment, a ritual well-known to concert-goers.

Little regret for DIGI GHETTO fans

Fans of DIGI GHETTO may find a tinge of regret when reflecting on their cherished moments. The rap stars, comprising Asen, Thomeboydontkill, Kiv, Mula Sakee, Toyoki, and Mac Ova Seas, undeniably stand as one of the most prominent rap groups of the new generation in China.

However, at ASIAN PROJECT 2023 in Malaysia, due to conflicting schedules, Asen, Thomeboydontkill, and Toyoki could not grace the stage, leaving a minor void in the hearts of fans. Nevertheless, the atmosphere remained fervent. The absent members’ songs were played consecutively during the event, stirring emotions among the fans. Despite their physical absence, these members were re-imagined through the music of the cypher, and the fans actively cooperated, harmonising the sections of the absent members, igniting the atmosphere in an instant.
