KUCHING: The third edition of the Education in Hospitality and Tourism Forum (EHTF) embraces the theme “Innovative Education for Sustainable and Culturally Enriched Technological Advancement”.

Dean Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management, UCSI University Kuching Campus Assistant Professor Christopher Wan Sageng said the forum provided a platform for robust discussions on the future of education in the hospitality and tourism sectors, one that embraced innovation, sustainability and cultural diversity.

He added that this year, UCSI was delighted to introduce a new dimension to the event as the university co-hosted the first Asia Pacific Summit for Event Leaders (APSEL)  in collaboration with Asia Pacific Institute for Events Management (APIEM).

“APSEL brings together members from across the Asia Pacific, offering a unique opportunity to engage with leaders in events management, to network and to explore potential partnerships.

“In Oct 2023, we were successfully accredited to become an APIEM International Centre of Excellence for its programmes in events and leisure management.

“This has made us the first university in Borneo to be accredited by APIEM,” he said.

Christopher said this in his speech during the launching ceremony of EHTF and APSEL at UCSI Hotel here today (Oct 24).

He added the two-day forum aimed to foster a dynamic exchange of knowledge between industry experts and academics in the hospitality and tourism sectors.

“Together, we will explore the emerging trends, challenges, and opportunities that will shape our industries, particularly those that leverage technological advancement to support sustainability and cultural preservation,” he said.

During the event, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)   between UCSI and key industry and academia partners was signed; it aimed to enhance collaboration in education and training within the hospitality and tourism sectors.

The event is a pivotal opportunity for networking, knowledge sharing and exploring the latest trends in hospitality and tourism.

With a lineup of expert speakers and interactive sessions, participants left inspired and equipped to drive positive change in their respective fields.
