BEKENU assemblywoman Datuk Rosey Yunus is not your average woman, she is strong-willed and a fighter for what she believes in.
Known for being hard-working and for her work ethic on the ground, Rosey is firm, kind and a popular figure in her constituency.
But, one of the more interesting facts about her is that she has green fingers and loves gardening and she enjoys precious moments spent with her family.
Below is an excerpt of New Sarawak Tribune’s interview with her.
New Sarawak Tribune: What is your hobby which can give impact to the development of your constituency?
Rosey: I love gardening, that’s my hobby, I can exchange flowers to get the types of plants I like. I also make a lot of friends who have the same interest, which is a show of unity. Nevertheless, gardening is a great opportunity to earn some side income and to help economic growth. We also have the flora and fauna festival, which is a good way for networking especially in the flowering business.
As an assemblywoman, how do you balance your own life and the demands or requests of the people?
I am used to it already, a supportive family helps as well. My family understands the work that I go through especially with time so whenever I am not attending a function or a meeting, as a family, together with my siblings, relatives and friends we would gather for a meal.
What is an unforgettable moment as assemblywoman for Bekenu and what has touched you personally as the people’s representative?
I am unable to forget the goodness of our people, it is the kindness and good deeds of the people that have touched me personally as an assemblywoman.
What are your plans for the constituency in the next five years?
To increase the facilities in Bekenu as well as develop areas that could be a tourism hotspot which would increase economic opportunities. To complete the mini stadium, to also finish ‘The Drinking Horse’ gallery in Tusan, to complete the Batu Niah waterfront in Bekenu and ensure Subis in Bekenu is complementing Miri as a resort city.
What would you do if you were not an assemblywoman?
If I were not an assemblywoman, I would have retired as a principal together with my family. I was last stationed in Sekolah Menengah Sains Miri, a boarding school and surrounded with excellent students who passed their public examinations with flying colours.
