THE State 2020 Budget is a pro-development and progressive budget with two-thirds of it going to development, said Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan branch chairman Robert Lau Hui Yew.
He said the people of Sarawak, especially the rural community, would definitely benefit from it.
“This is a big contrast to the Federal Budget. What it is sad to see that Sarawak has to use its money for the development of certain things that the federal government failed to carry out.”
“Yet, at the same time, the people of Sarawak have to pay tax and duties to the federal government,” he told New Sarawak Tribune.
Echoing what Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said, Lau, who is also deputy chairman of Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC), added, “It is indeed sad that the people here, particularly our rural community, have not been able to enjoy good quality lives with the necessary infrastructure and amenities.”
He added the needs of Sarawak were much more than any states in Malaya due to the size of the state.
“It is equivalent to the whole of Malaya, minus Perlis.
And yet under the Federal Budget, we get the same share as Perlis,” Lau said.
