SIBU: A special committee has been proposed to help to assist and address the issues faced by the rural Iban voters in Sibu parliamentary seat.
Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) deputy president Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah said the rural voters here often have no one to turn to for assistance when facing problems.
Thus, he has suggested the formation of a special committee, to be known as PBB Bawang Asan Committee, for now, to help the rural folks to solve the local issues.
“We can discuss these issues facing them with a view to fulfil some of their more urgent requests first,” he said.
“It is my hope that this committee will be formed after this parliamentary election,”Uggah said this after a meet-the- people session at Rh Salim Unang in Sungai Rasau near here today (Nov 13).
Uggah said he will be meeting the Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg on the proposed special committee.
For 12 years after DAP controlled the Sibu seat, he said, the folks here had suffered from many mainly infrastructural and utility woes.
“They have no proper road to link them to Sibu Town, a number of longhouses still do not have treated water supplies, and there is no health clinic nearby and so forth.
“They too have received minimal attention from their other elected leader. So, I am advising them to vote for a change on the polling day, which is Nov 19,” he said.
Uggah appealed to the voters to cast their votes in favour of GPS candidate Clarence Ting from Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP).
“If he wins he will be your vital bridge to the government,” he said.
Uggah said Sarawak GPS was a people’s centred government led by Sarawakian leaders.
“Our Premier (Abang Johari) is not only visionary, but a leader for all races.
“The Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 that he initiated is aimed at further uplifting the people’s living standard and for Sarawak to be a high income society by 2030,” he said.
He added that the people should support GPS and all its 31 candidates contesting so that they can participate fully in PCDS 2030 and benefit from it.
Uggah reminded them in areas where the people had always been supportive of the government, they had enjoyed very good development and progress.
On DAP, he warned them from becoming marginalised again if its candidate won.
The opposition leaders in Sarawak, he said, were now making all sorts of excuses for not being able to deliver.
The Dayak voters account for about 30 per cent of the about 100,000 voters in Sibu.
