KUCHING: Former Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud is remembered as a statesman and unifier, said Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.
The Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister expressed her condolences to the late former Sarawak Governor, highlighting his legacy of fostering unity and progress.
She said Taib was instrumental in laying the foundation for unity amidst diversity in Sarawak, highlighting his contributions to both physical and human development, along with his efforts to empower women, which have left an indelible mark on the nation.
“Innalillahi wainnailaihirojiun. A statesman, a distinguished leader of the nation, has passed away. A leader who laid a strong foundation for unity amidst diversity in Sarawak, physical and human development, and women’s empowerment.
“O Allah, forgive his sins, bestow your mercy upon him, grant him peace, and pardon him. Honour his death, widen his grave, place his soul among the souls of the believers, and grant patience to his family.
“Condolences to Datuk Hanifah and family,” she said in a statement.
Sarawak today mourns the loss of an esteemed leader who passed away at the age of 87 in a private hospital in Kuala Lumpur.
He will be laid to rest tomorrow after funeral prayers at Tanah Perkuburan Demak, following zohor prayers.
