KUCHING: A man broke into a house to steal believing his doing so would make his wife happy.
Little did he realise that there would be consequences — he was sentenced to two years imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court here Tuesday.
Mohamad Ali Abdullah, 21, pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 457 of the Penal Code read before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan.
Mason Jaro ordered him to serve the prison sentence with immediate effect.
He had stood accused of intentionally breaking into the house of a 48-year-old woman in Muara Tabuan, around 12.30 pm on June 5, 2022.
Upon returning from her village, the woman found the back gate of the house, which was locked, had been cut.
Several items were also missing, including two televisions and a gas cylinder, and altogether the woman suffered losses amounting to about RM1,500.
A police report was filed, leading to the arrest of Mohamad in an Operation Pintu raid on July 21, 2022.
The prosecution was conducted by Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang, while Mohamad was not represented by a lawyer.
