SIBU: A total of 1,000 books have been donated to Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sibu Jaya in conjunction with the Business Event Sarawak (BESarawak) Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme here yesterday.
BESarawak’s chief executive officer, Amelia Roziman, said that the book donation is part of their state-level CSR initiative, ‘Books Build Legacy’.
Amelia said that BESarawak’s goal is to donate books to rural schools throughout Sarawak to help children develop essential literacy skills, providing them with greater opportunities for success in life.
“These books, donated by generous associations and corporate entities that have hosted conferences, exhibitions, corporate meetings, or incentive trips in Sarawak this year, reflect our shared belief in the transformative power of books in a child’s life. Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) has contributed an additional 300 books.
“We selected this school because SK Sibu Jaya is part of a new development and has the highest student population in the city,” she said.
Amelia stressed that the books will inspire a love of learning in the students and improves their chances of academic success.
“While it is important to know our national and native languages, English is also a significant global language.
“We aim for them to be proficient in all languages. We urge teachers to offer as much support and encouragement as possible to enhance students’ literacy skills,” she added.
Therefore, Amelia encouraged more business event planners to support ‘Books Build Legacy’ or to create similar initiatives that will benefit the community.
“You have the capability to effect substantial change. I am hopeful that more organisations will partner with Business Events Sarawak to contribute books in the future,” she said.
Also present were SK Sibu Jaya headmaster, Jabut Minda.
