SIBU: If not for the bravery and quick action of an angler a Chinese national would not be seeing another day.
The drama unfolded at 10.25pm Wednesday when the angler was like the knight in shining armour who appeared on the scene to save a damsel in distress.
According to Sibu OCPD ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit, 36-year-old Pang Su Meng, a Chinese national, was strolling at a jetty in Jalan Ding Lik Kwong with her eyes fixed on some anglers when she misstepped, slipped and fell into the river.
He said apparently the woman from Si Chuan, China did not realise that the wooden planks were slippery which caused her to slip and lose her balance.
ACP Stanley said the angler, who saw her falling into the murky water, jumped into the water and pulled her to the safety of the river banks.
Rescuers called to the scene confirmed the woman was none the worse for wear.
“She left the scene with no injuries, except perhaps for some frayed nerves, with her boyfriend who is a local,” ACP Stanley added.
And quite like the knight in shining armour, the angler remains anonymous.
