KUCHING: The Para (SUKMA) Malaysia Games XXI Carnival is set to kick off on September 21 at Dataran Perayaan in Petra Jaya.

Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said that the carnival will feature a diverse range of activities, including busking performances by people with disabilities (PWDs), booths, and other engaging programmes.

“The carnival will run daily from September 21 to 28, from 10am to 8pm,” she told a press conference at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today (Sept 6).

“The event will highlight busking performances from PWDs, and there will also be booths in the area throughout the carnival,” Fatimah added.

She also said that the accommodation for para-athletes will be provided by the Imperial Hotel, Riverside Majestic & Astana Wing, Kuching Park Hotel, and Roxy Hotel, Mile 3.

For Para SUKMA 2024, the venues used for the events will include Sarawak Stadium, Pandelela Rinong Aquatics Centre, Sarawak Badminton Association Hall, Megalanes E-Mart Batu Kawa, and Archery Range Petra Jaya.

Para SUKMA 2024 will run from September 22 to 28 and feature 328 events across 10 sports: Para Athletics (132 events), Para Swimming (60), Para Powerlifting (24), Para Chess (24), Para Tenpin Bowling (20), Para Lawn Bowls (19), Para Table Tennis (15), Para Archery (14), Para Badminton (12), and Boccia (8).

The Games will host 1,290 athletes from 15 contingents across Malaysia, including Sarawak (213 athletes), Sabah (146), Johor (112), Selangor (100), Perak (88), Penang (81), Kedah (76), Terengganu (75), Negeri Sembilan (71), Perlis (64), Melaka (62), Pahang (57), Kelantan (48), Kuala Lumpur (33), and Labuan (64).
