POZNAN: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has called for concerted efforts to bolster ties between the Wielkopolska region of Poland and Sarawak.
According to a post on Thursday (April 25) on the Premier’s official Facebook page ‘Sarawakku’, Abang Johari suggested a student exchange programme between universities in the region and in Sarawak to create better understanding between people of both areas.
He made these remarks during a dinner speech to thank the Marshal of the Wielkopolska Region, Marek Wozniak, who had invited him to take part in the third Central Europe Hydrogen Forum as a panel speaker.
He then extended an invitation to Wozniak to visit Sarawak, not only to attend conferences but to understand Sarawak and its green aspirations better.
He said in the near future, Sarawak would be hosting world conferences, including the International World Water Congress and Exhibition in 2028.
Wozniak, in a return speech, thanked Abang Johari for accepting his invitation to speak at the forum and shared Sarawak experiences in its green and decarbonisation initiatives.
He said that other areas of the world, Sarawak in particular, also shared the same climate change concern as Europe and should together act to mitigate climate change.
He also stated that efforts should be taken to strengthen cooperation between Poznan and Sarawak in the common objective of ensuring a sustainable earth.
Meanwhile, in reponse to the Abang Johari’s invitation to visit Sarawak, he said he would be glad to visit Sarawak if the situation permitted. Later, the two leaders exchanged gifts.
Abang Johari was accompanied by his wife, Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang.
Accompanying Abang Johari were Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Ambassador of Malaysia to Poland Datuk Chitra Devi Ramiah, State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, and Chief Political Secretary to the Premier Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman.
