KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s strategic leadership and the fabulous four in Gabungan Parti Sarawak have brought the state to where it is today.

Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian made this much clear at an appreciation dinner to celebrate GPS’ success in the 15th General Election last night.

“Our Premier led us to victory by exact, precise and strategic leadership,” said Uggah.

“Party leaders in GPS, including Dr Sim of the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), Datuk Joseph Salang from Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), and Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing from the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), have fully committed to and supported him.

“Likewise, the people have given us strong support because they want a strong and fair government that is people-friendly and development-friendly,” he said.

Uggah said this was the reason why even though some fresh faces contested in hot seats such as Lubok Antu, Betong, Sarikei, and Selangau in GE15, the people threw their weight behind them.

He said the people had faith in the GPS leadership, citing Abang Johari’s competence in steering the state which, in turn, has led to new revenue for Sarawak.

In a similar vein Dr Sim applauded the fabulous four of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu Sarawak (PBB), SUPP, PRS, and PDP for the stability and unity of the GPS coalition.

With the steady hands of Abang Johari, who is GPS chairman and PBB president, he said Sarawak had managed to achieve political and financial independence.

“In the past 10 years, Sarawak’s politics have evolved tremendously. And the best of Sarawak is yet to come.

“2030 is the year of the digital green economy, and we are able to do that because of the stability, the unity of the GPS, and the fabulous four,” he said.

Dr. Sim added that the momentum should be maintained and that preparations for the Sarawak election in 2026 must start right away.
