ABU DHABI: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has arrived in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) to begin an official four-day working visit from Nov 4-7.

A special aircraft carrying him and the Sarawak delegation arrived at Al Bateen Executive Airport at 1.50 pm local time, where they were welcomed by Malaysia’s Ambassador to the UAE Tengku Datuk Sirajuzzaman Tengku Mohamed Ariffin.

Abang Johari will begin his visit today by visiting Masdar City, a city fully powered by solar energy, located about 30km from Abu Dhabi.

He will then witness the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB), Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (PSJC) and Gentari.

The strategic collaboration focuses on exploring the potential to develop the world’s largest floating photovoltaic (PV) solar project, with a capacity of up to one gigawatt, at the Murum Dam.

On Wednesday (Nov 6), Abang Johari is scheduled to attend the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) 2024 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) Centre here.

He will also participate in a focused discussion session on the role of Asia in shaping the hydrogen market.

In the afternoon, he is scheduled to witness the signing of an agreement between Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) and Mubadala Energy.

The agreement aims for Mubadala Energy to help promote the conservation, protection, regeneration, and enhancement of biodiversity.

Additionally, it involves the development of a framework for both parties to explore opportunities in SFC-managed areas suitable for implementing mangrove conservation at the Kuching Wetland National Park and identifying other potential conservation projects.

Abang Johari will conclude his itinerary programme by meeting with the Mubadala Energy team, which will be led by its chief executive officer and managing director Sheikh Mansoor Mohamed Al Hamed.

The discussion will cover the Sarawak Gas Roadmap and Mubadala Energy’s investment opportunities in Sarawak.

He and his delegation are expected to depart back to Sarawak on Nov 8.

Accompanying Abang Johari throughout the working visit are Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Utility and Telecommunications Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi, State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni.

Also present are chairman of Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) Tan Sri Datuk Amar Hamid Bugo, chairman of Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Datuk Hussain and SEB’s Group chief executive officer Datuk Sharbini Suhaili.
