KUCHING: The Iban ‘Segulai, Sejalai’ slogan adopted nationwide accurately portrays the unity among state and federal civil servants in Sarawak, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He said Sarawak is fortunate to have a diverse group of civil servants from various cultural, ethnic, and religious backgrounds, who exhibit commitment, dedication and hard work.

“Both Sarawak and federal civil servants play an important role in leading the government’s delivery system in a more professional and efficient manner for the benefit of the people.

“As the driving force behind government policies and initiatives, civil servants have helped make the administration in Sarawak more stable, professional and of world-class standard,” he said during the ‘Majlis Sekalung Budi Sarawak 2023’ event here yesterday (June 18).

“God has given us so many resources, therefore, we must give value to our resources by exploring the latest technologies,” he said.

He encouraged collaboration between the civil service and the Sarawak government to explore innovative approaches to manage the state’s economy.

“The state government is now emphasising new economy that is based on green energy.

“China has recorded a high temperature of up to 40 degree Celsius and some habitats in other countries are now under threat due to climate change,” he said.

In response to this, he called for the exploration and innovation to mitigate carbon emissions and contribute to the cooling of the Earth.

The event also witnessed Abang Johari presenting tokens of appreciation from the Sarawak government to former Army Easter Field Commander Lieutenant General Datuk Mardzuki Muhammad; former Sarawak Immigration director Datuk Ken Leben; former permanent secretary to Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Antonio Kahti Galis; former Malaysia Civil Defence Force Sarawak director Abdul Wahab Rahim; and former Malaysian Third Infantry Brigade commander Brig-Gen Mohd Kamil Abdul Latiff.
