KUCHING: State Barisan Nasional (BN) Chairman Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg will be announcing the candidates who will be contesting in the 14th General Election (GE14) today.
“The announcement will be made at Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Headquarters in Jalan Bako, here,” said Johari when met by reporters at the Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus convocation ceremony here yesterday.
State BN will be contesting in all 31 parliamentary seats and has targeted to win 28 parliamentary seats in this coming general election.
Meanwhile, when asked on the sacking of five Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) leaders on Sunday, Johari said he respected the decision made by the PRS top leadership.
“We have to respect their decision,” he said.
A PRS special committee formed on Sunday sacked five of its leaders for disobeying the party over its candidacy list for the general election and also for ridiculing as well as putting the party into disrepute.
Those members sacked with immediate effect were Deputy President Datuk Joseph Entulu Belaun who is also Selangau incumbent and Supreme Committee Members Datuk William Nyallau Badak (Lubok Antu incumbent), Nyempah Sabot, Edward Kurik and Adriana Chumang.
The sacking of the five PRS leaders came just less than a week before the nomination day on April 28.
Meanwhile, the Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus convocation ceremony at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) witnessed a total of 246 graduates receiving their undergraduate, master and doctorate degrees.
105 undergraduate students received their Bachelor of Business (Accounting, Accounting and Finance, Finance, Human Resource Management, International Business, Management, and Marketing); nine for Bachelor of Design (Multimedia Design); 11 for Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology; 11 for Bachelor of Computer Science; eight from Bachelor of Science (Biotechnology) and 86 for Bachelor of Engineering with Honours (Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical and Electronic, Robotics and Mechatronics, and Robotics and Mechatronics/Computer Science double degree).
Meanwhile, six graduates received their Master of Business Administration (International); two for Master of Construction Management; one for Master of Engineering (Research) and three for Master of Science (Research).
In addition, three received their Doctor of Philosophy degrees in engineering and science.
