KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will officially open the Sarawak Petchem methanol plant at Tanjung Kidurong on Sarawak Day which falls on July 22.
Minister of Food Industry, Commodities, and Regional Development Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said the inauguration of the methanol plant will be an important part of the Sarawak Day celebrations.
He also said meticulous preparations are underway to ensure a grand and celebration this year.
“The Premier is satisfied with all the preparations we have made. However, there are some changes that need to be made in terms of sentiment.
“We want to put Sarawak at the forefront as quickly as possible, but it should be remembered that Sarawak remains in Malaysia.
“As Sarawak progresses and prospers, Malaysia also progresses and prospers,” Rundi, who is the Sarawak Day 2024 organising chairman, said after paying a courtesy call on Abang Johari at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here yesterday (July 9).
Additionally, Rundi and the main committee for the Sarawak Day 2024 celebration will pay a courtesy visit to Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, at Astana Negeri Sarawak today.
Rundi explained that Bintulu was chosen as the host for the Sarawak Day 2024 celebration due to the rapid development in the area.
For the record, the celebration’s programme includes a thanksgiving ceremony for other religions on July 20, followed by a thanksgiving ceremony at Assyakirin Mosque in Bintulu on July 21.
The festivities will continue with a ‘Fun Ride’ at Dewan Suarah Bintulu for 15 km and a town hall session at Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus on July 22.
The highlight of the celebration will be the Sarawak Day 2024 assembly at the Bintulu Old Airport site at 8 pm on July 22.
On the same night, many local artistes, including Bob Yusuf, Melissa Francis, and Dayang Nurfaizah, will perform, along with a pantomime performance.
