SIBU: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg had a busy weekend touring the countryside on his motorbike. He rode from Sibu to Kapit on Sunday visiting various project sites and attending to several official functions.

Joining Abang Johari in the motorbike expedition were Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Infrastructure and Port Development Assistant Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi, Youth and Sports Assistant Minister Datuk Snowdan Lawan, Hulu Rajang MP Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong, State Secretary Datuk Amar Jaul Samion and deputy State Secretary Datuk Seri Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki.

Senator Robert Lau Hui Yew flagged off the expedition. More than 80 bikers from various organisations in Kuching, Sibu and Miri also joined the convoy.

The chief minister’s convoy began the ride at 8.50am from the starting point at Eco Garden Residence, Sibu to Kanowit. The 57.3km journey took them about one hour 20 minutes.

In Kanowit, Abang Johari went to the District Council’s market and multipurpose stall to listen to a briefing on the project development by Public Works Department (JKR) Central Region. He also took the opportunity to visit the Kanowit market and had breakfast with the local community.

Abang Johari and his entourage continued the ride from Kanowit to Ngungun, about an hour’s journey.

On arrival, he attended a ‘meet-the-people’ programme at the Nanga Ngungun multipurpose hall and also attended briefings on several projects in the area.

In the afternoon, the chief minister and the motorcycle convoy continued their journey from Ngungun to Song via the recently completed Temalat-Ngemah road. The trip took about 30 minutes. On arrival, Abang Johari inspected the Song Waterfront People’s Project.

From Song, the chief minister rode to Kapit. The 51km trip took about one hour. On arrival, he declared open the Kapit Town Square and later attended a briefing on the Kapit Waterfront project by the project’s consultant.

Abang Johari attended a dinner with the people held at Kapit Civic Centre last night.

The chief minister is expected to continue his journey to visit the Nanga Mujong Bridge project today (Monday) before returning to Kuching.
