BALI: Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) chief executive officer Datuk Sharbini Suhaili conducted a briefing on the 2023 World Hydropower Congress here for Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg yesterday (Oct 30).

The  session was also attended by among others Minister of Utilities and Telecommunication Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi and his deputy Datuk Liwan Lagang, chief political secretary Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, SEB board member Tan Sri Datuk Amar Morshidi Abdul Ghani and Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain.

Earlier, Abang Johari and the delegation attended a dinner hosted by SEB at Sheraton Kuta Bali Resort.

The 2023 World Hydropower Congress which starts today (Oct 31) and ends on Nov 3, brings together more than 1,000 decision makers, innovators, and industry experts, government, finance and civil society officials and academia to the Bali Dua Nusa Convention Centre.

Over 200 high-level speakers are expected to participate in over 30 sessions, covering key issues such as clean energy security and flexibility, climate, water, sustainability and finance.

As the leading global event for decisionmakers in the hydropower industry, the World Hydropower Congress is more than just a platform for discussion.

Its deliverables in 2023 include reaching consensus on policy and finance recommendations for advancing the clean energy transition to deliver COP28, breaking down barriers to the development of renewables by advancing policy and investment-driven solutions, demonstrating how complementary renewable technologies can be harnessed to fast-track the shift away from coal and highlighting the immensely  untapped hydropower potential that exists in many regions of the world, particularly Asia and Africa.
